Spring Training, Day 2

Well, for once I am early! Today’s game doesn’t start till 1 pm and I’m already ready for the game. We’re not leaving for a few more minutes so I thought I’d use the time to do a quick recap of yesterday.

4-Mile Run

I stopped by the Concierge Desk to find out if they recommended any running trails. To my delight, they provided me with this card that directed me on either a 4 or 5 mile path.

Unfortunately, I started running a little too late (about 9:30 am). While the temperature read 63 degrees, it felt more like 83! Since I was only planning on running 3 or 4 miles, I didn’t bring a drink with me, which I really regretted. None the less, it was a great run and I really enjoyed it.

SF Giants vs Cleveland Indians
After my run, we headed to Scottsdale Stadium to see my team vs the Cleveland Indians…next to the Cubs, the 2 most long-suffering teams.

Of course, for lunch, I had to get the soba noodles w/teriyaki chicken. I’ve been pretty obsessed with this dish, its soooo delish!

These days, I’m too lazy to battle the crowds for position to get really great photos and autographs. Instead, I just took photos from my seat. We sat with friends in the great seats behind home plate again, also behind the scouts. I like to sit there and observe which players they start taking notes on, and which pitchers they take out the radar guns to monitor. Several of the scouts took notes on the Giants starter, Jonathan Sanchez, who threw a no-hitter last season.

But when Waldis Joaquin, one of the middle relievers, took the mound, about 6 or 7 radar guns came out! I watched the gun and saw him max at 96 mph! I tried to eavesdrop on their notes, but couldn’t really read their handwriting.

Went Clubbing
By the time the 7th inning closed, we had had enough of the sun and decided to bail on the game and head to the pool. I had never gone down the water slide, and really wanted to this year…only, we never made it there.

Instead, we ended up at the Regency Club – our version of going “clubbing.”

The Regency Club is a private lounge for Hyatt guests where they offer “enhanced amenities”, free wireless access, and personal concierge service. For us it means “free food!” and a nice quiet place to hang out and unwind, after a long day in the sun at the ballpark.

Dinner
For dinner, we met up with my aunt and my sister, who both live here in the area. It was a nice chance for us to catch up, being that we don’t see each other very often.

Today, we’re about to leave to go back to the ballpark to see the Giants vs the Cincinnati Reds…the return of Dusty Baker!

Later in the day I’m hoping to meet up with another cousin, Lauren, who just flew into town this morning on her Spring Break from the University of Washington. I also found out that my friends Megan and Dodger Dan are in town; I haven’t seen them in a couple of years so hopefully we can meet up for another mini-reunion.

Happy first day of Spring, get out and enjoy the day!
