Buster-mania Has Arrived
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
For me, this means that summer is here, so where else would I be than at the ballpark! I got to go to 2 of the 3 games vs the D’backs this weekend! When we got our tickets earlier this week, we had no idea it the start of Buster-mania!
Saturday
After a 7-mile run, I headed to the City for a Saturday night game!
It started off as a warm night in San Francisco. I was there with my friends, Melissa and Julie. As we ate dinner we witnessed a couple tying the knot in center field.
Now that’s what you call die-hard fans. It was pretty interesting to see the creative orange and black attire that the wedding party and guests showed up in.
There was definitely a buzz in the air because the Giants had just called-up Buster Posey from Triple-A Fresno. He’s the future of the franchise and the fan-base (myself included) has been clamoring for him to be promoted to the big leagues.
We had great bleacher seats!
The kid did not disappoint. He had an immediate impact on the sometimes anemic offense and went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s in his season debut!
Sunday
I started Sunday with an attempted swim workout, then headed back to the park for the final game of the series.
We had lunch at Mejita, the new taqueria at the park (go for the chicken tacos), then followed it up with the chocolate salt ice cream at the Public House, the restaurant next door. Yes, chocolate salt – the perfect combination of sweet and salt. I love it!
After lunch we met up with fellow Giants fan and triathlete extraordinaire, Punk Rock Runner. Read his blog people – you won’t be disappointed.
Then it was game time! We sat in our same bleacher seats at the night before. It looks even better during the day time!
So Giants fans – do you remember during the Barry Bonds days when you planned your trips to the concession and/or restroom around his at-bats? If you knew he was coming up to the plate, you didn’t dare leave your seat? Then after his at-bat, there would be a mass exodus to the restrooms? That’s how I feel about Buster Posey. The kid had another great game, going 3-5 with an RBI. At one point during the game his batting average was .857! (I had a picture of this, but due to technical difficulties, I can’t post it).
Needless to say, Buster-mania is in full force in the Bay Area. (You may even see Team Buster t-shirts running the Giant Race!)
In typical Giants form, they made it interesting, taking the game into extras. Thankfully, they won, due to an Andres Torres game-winning single! What a great way to end my baseball weekend!
I will be missing tomorrow’s epic Lincecum vs Jimenez match-up (hello TiVo), but I will spending the holiday with great (non-baseball or running) friends. Yes, they do exist.
