Weekend Workouts

Weekend Workouts:

Saturday: 8-mile run in 1 hr 19 min
Sunday: 2600-meter swim in 1 hr 10 min

All last week, the media hyped up that forecast of snow in the Bay Area…the first time it was to happen since the 70’s. It was expected to come late Friday night, which meant, who knows what Saturday morning would be like, right?

When I went to bed on Friday night, the weather app read this:

When I woke up on Saturday, I peeked outside and as expected, there was no white on the ground. Allegedly it snowed at higher peaks in the City, but not where I live. But it was cold:

My friend Kady came over at 8 am and we headed out to Sawyer’s Camp (again). Kady had never been there, so I thought I’d share it with her. I had bundled up in a long-sleeve t-shirt, my Portland Marathon jacket, running tights, hat and gloves. I was plenty warm, but not enough to get over-heated. I set my Garmin to countdown the miles, which keeps mentally energized.

The rest of the run was pretty non-eventful; everything went well and felt good. Kady ended up doing 9.5 miles, while I ran 8.

After our run, we had sushi for lunch and did maintenance for the rest of the day; i.e., hair appt (me) and pedi (her).

After finishing the Las Vegas Rock ‘n Roll Marathon in 2009 and proclaiming she’ll never run another one again, she’s now “strongly learning towards” running another one. ☺ I’m excited because now I have someone to run with on a more regular basis!


{a few years ago}

This morning I swam at the pool for a little over an hour and had the pool all too myself for most of the workout. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be “serene.”

There won’t be any Sunday Dinner post tonight. I loved the recipes I made last week so much, that I’m making Chicken Parmesan Wraps again tonight for the Oscars. I haven’t watched any of the nominated flicks, but that’s nothing new…I’m just looking forward to the red carpet!

    RoadBunner is the expert in this! She’s the one who introduced me to custom workouts!

    I have noooo idea. I’ve never even figured out how to create a custom workout. I seriously need to look into this!

    RoadBunner showed me how to create custom workouts on my Garmin and when I use it, it counts down the miles. I think its standard when creating workouts, no?

    Great weekend workouts! I loved running in the cooler temps Saturday morning, but was admittedly bummed that I didn’t see so much as a single snowflake.

    Just curious… how do you get your Garmin to countdown the miles?? I LOVE that idea, rather than counting up. (Or did I read your post wrong?)
