The Grilled Cheese Run

Among the many gifts that running has given me is a great big circle of friends. Our little Bay Area group is made up of some amazing people. These friends are a constant source of motivation – they teach, uplift and motivate me.

Last night, we all trekked to the City from the South Bay, East Bay, Peninsula and Marin to meet up for an evening run in downtown San Francisco. I hadn’t been able to make any of the previous weeknight runs but the promise of post-run grilled cheese sandwiches at The Melt was enough to get me to this one. This and the fact that I am so tired of the usual routes that I run around my neighborhood.

We convened at the famous Ferry Building in downtown San Francisco…

…and ran various distances along the Embarcadero, through Fisherman’s Wharf, and I made the turn around at the Aquatic Park (also where many folks do open-water swimming). Although it was terribly windy and I was constantly dodging tourists, it felt so great to run somewhere different.

Bread, cheese and running with amazing friends in the City that I love – it was one of the best weeknights I’ve had in a long time!
