A Saturday Morning Run in January

Being that I have a half marathon in oh...three weeks (!!!) it was time to stretch out the distance of my weekend runs. I had 9-miles on my schedule so I decided to visit good ol' Sawyers Camp.

If you're not familiar with it, it's a popular paved trail that runs along the Crystal Springs Reservoir. It's 6-miles long and marked every half-mile.

I ran here almost every weekend from 2004-2009, but got tired of it. Now I visit just a couple of times a year. Today was my first run there since last April.

I got there a little after 8 am. It was cold and very foggy.

My assigned workout was to use the first mile for a warm-up, then do plyo drills.

I took these then:

Then run two conversational miles. Then alternate miles at a faster pace, followed by a slower pace.

Along the way I ran into my friend Yvette who is also running the same half as I am. She was already warmed-up being 8-miles into her 12-miler. But it was so cold that the sweat on her beanie has turned to frost - that's how cold it was! I wish I took a photo.

I also wish I took a photo of the deer that I ran by but I didn't want to stop and pull out my phone.

As for the run itself? It was...eh. It was my longest run since October so in that perspective I would say it went well. But there's a lot more things that need to be worked on.

Overall I would say that it was a great, great winter day for a long run.
