Yesterday I flew to Arizona for my official 16th Annual Spring Training trip! The trip 2 weeks ago was primarily for the race with a little baseball thrown in, but this week I'm with my cousin, who I've been coming to Scottsdale with since 1994!
We both used airline credits for our flights so we ended flying down on separate airlines. By the time we met up and picked up our car rental, it was way past lunch time and we were famished! We headed back to our old haunt, The Yardhouse in Scottsdale. They have a Kona Coffee Sundae that we were craving, and since there is no Yardhouse in the Bay Area, this is the only place we can have it.
Its not like we don't have kona coffee ice cream back home, but this one is delish! Maybe its the combination of the tiny chocolate bits with the ice cream, or maybe its because we know that when we have it, we're in Scottsdale! Needless to say, that thing was devoured in record time.
We couldn't check in to the hotel until after we met up with the rest of our friends after dinner, so we have a lot of time to kill at the mall. Thankfully, we both love to shop, and we both love that mall! But surprisingly enough, we didn't end up buying anything. Instead, we found ourselves at the Nordstrom Spa, the only place in the mall (that we could find) that did pedicures. I desperately needed one, I could see a black toenail in my future if I didn't get one. Turned out to be the most luxurious pedicure I'd ever had!
It was all about the chair. The chair I sat in reclined all the way back. So while the pedicurist worked on my feet, my eyes were covered with an orange/chamomile scented towel. The last thing I remember was my feet being covered in paraffin. I fell into a deep sleep, one of the best naps ever!
After the spa we headed to Dons and Charlie's, another old haunt that we visit every year. I don't even have to look at the menu. I'm normally not a big red meat eater, but this place is all about the ribs. The biggest decision I had to make was whether to get a half slab or a full one. I ended up going with a half slab and a bare baked potato. My nutritionist told me that baked potatoes are great sources of potassium so I'm really trying to make a concerted effort to eat more of them. Instead of sour cream and butter, I just get a little extra bbq sauce...it was divine!
When we left the restaurant, I expected to need a sweater, but it was still in the 70's at 10 pm! Awesome for a Spring trip, but I'm anticipating extra warm temperatures at the ballpark, something I'm not looking forward to.
In addition to the baseball, shopping and restaurants, another reason we love coming here every year is that we get to stay the Hyatt Regency at Gainey Ranch, one of the most beautiful resorts I've ever been to (not that I've been to a lot). We love this place, and they recently renovated it, making it even more beautiful! This is what I got to wake up to today.
I'm supposed to head out for a short (at least 3 mile) run, but I can't run on an empty stomach and we haven't made it to the grocery store to buy any snacks yet, so I ordered some granola, yogurt and bacon for breakfast, then will head out for the run.
Hopefully it won't be too hot by then.
Later today we'll be at Scottsdale Stadium to watch my San Francisco Giants vs the Cleveland Indians.
