Handling Stress

Stressed. That’s how my past 2 days have been. And what the next 2 weeks will probably continue to be like. You see, its the end of the fiscal year at work and there are deadlines a'coming. There’s a lot of work to be done and stress levels are running high for everyone. Today I watched someone have a meltdown right before my eyes. My first reaction was to take it personally, but in retrospect, I realized that the person was reacting to the pressure of the situation. Much like I had in a mini-meltdown earlier in the day.

Its fascinating to see how people handle stress. Some people thrive in it. Other’s just don’t.

While I still have an occasional meltdown, believe it or not, I am much better about handling stress now than I was a few years ago. I attribute it to working out, I really do. Being able to channel my stress and negative energy is a great way to fuel a workout. Its a great stress reliever and leaves me feeling empowered. And that is why I will wake up at 4:30 am to get a workout in (and sometimes 2) before the day starts. I’m a much happier person, and am prepared to face the challenges of the day -- 95% of the time. Right now is an anomaly and I just hope to make it to August 1st in one piece.

The one work project I am looking forward to is planning a fun run. I was asked to organize one for an off-site at the end of next month. It’ll be low-key, nothing fancy, but having never organized one before, I’m looking for ideas on how to make it fun for everyone. Help - send me your suggestions!
