On Not Letting Shin Splints Ruin Your Day - #ONLSSRYD

I should be out running right now, but I had the most painful shin splints I've ever had during yesterday's track workout. I hadn't had shin splints in almost two years, but they sporadically started reappearing over the past month or so. I've tracked when I've felt them and haven't been able to pinpoint any specific culprit or pattern. They've never stayed for an entire run but yesterday I felt them from the first step till the last. And like I said, it was the most painful I've ever felt them. This morning I woke up and went straight to my phone to see what today's workout was. Instead I got this message...

I guess the site is down which I took as a sign. The leg feels a lot better but it also feels hot, like it really wants to be iced. Does that make any sense? I took that as another sign that I should just make today a quasi Rest Day. Meaning - I'm planning on going to the gym or taking a yoga class later so I guess it's more of a "non-running day" or #NRD.

I'm currently reading a wonderful book on the gifts of imperfections. Among the themes it discusses are courage, compassion and "things that get in the way", like fear.

Well right now I am scared sh*tless to run SFM in 17 days (!!!). The course is hard and unless you've actually run it yourself, you really have no idea. I feel like I've had more bad long runs then good ones and I really want this weekend's long run to be a good one. I suppose this is yet another thing that I'm letting "get in my way", but by taking this #NRD I feel like I'm being courageous and compassionate to myself (well, my leg).

Not really sure where I'm going with this, but I suppose its an attempt to be more "open" and "vulnerable" (other themes that the book discusses).

In other news yesterday I got to spend the day with one of my favorite people! #oomff

She had a special event going on in her office and invited me to participate. I had my own cubicle to work from and everything!

I think I got more of my work done in her office than in mine!

We dubbed the day "Bring Your Friend to Work Day", or #BYFTWD.

{Side note: I don't know why, but I am on a big #hashtag kick right now. I usually roll my eyes at blog posts that include screenshots of the blogger's tweets or hashtags...this one included.}

Anyway, not only did I get to spend the day with A, I also got to see another favorite friend at lunch! And then another Twitter friend happened to be walking on by and I got to meet her in real life for the first time!

For the most part, I work from home. Even when I'm in the office it's rare that I see another human being (long story). I run 99.9% of the time alone. So after yesterday's bitter run it was a real pick-me-up to be around other (running) people (#ORP).
