Food Can Be Medicine

Some of today's top health epidemics are obesity, diabetes, heart disease and even allergies.

These specific diseases have been prevalent in my own family for decades. From a young age I’ve seen the terrible effects they inflict.

Up until a few years ago I believed that the medications prescribed by the doctor were the “cure all.” I didn’t make the connection that the foods we eat impact how our bodies respond to diseases.

But after working with a functional medicine doctor and attending nutritional school, I now believe that food can be medicine.

The Grilled Cheese Run

Among the many gifts that running has given me is a great big circle of friends. Our little Bay Area group is made up of some amazing people. These friends are a constant source of motivation - they teach, uplift and motivate me. Last night, we all trekked to the City from the South Bay, East Bay, Peninsula and Marin to meet up for an evening run in downtown San Francisco. I hadn't been able to make any of the previous weeknight runs but the promise of post-run grilled cheese sandwiches at The Melt was enough to get me to this one. This and the fact that I am so tired of the usual routes that I run around my neighborhood.
