I picked up Audrey a little before 5:30 am and we headed up to the City. On the drive up, I commented to her that there was quite a bit of traffic on the freeway for that early on a Sunday morning. I mean, I knew a lot of people ran Nike, but I expected that most of them came from out of town and were already staying in the City. We had planned to park at the Ellis/O'Farrell garage, where Audrey (a multi-year veteran of NWM) always parked on race morning. There was traffic getting into the downtown area but once we got to Ellis St, we found that it was closed off! No wonder that garage wasn't listed as a recommended parking area on the race web site. And here we thought we were being smart.
I'm running the half at the Nike Women's Marathon on Sunday. I've spectated this race many times before but this is the first year that I'm actually running it. I decided to go to the Expotique last night to avoid the sure-to-be insane crowds that will be there today.
For the third weekend in a row, I found myself at a race. This time, spectating at the Nike Women’s Marathon. Way back in the Spring, I entered the lottery to run the full marathon. I was awarded an entry, but opted to run Portland instead. I gave my spot to a friend, so on Saturday I ventured up to the City to pick up the bib and race packet.
