The Art of Doing Nothing

My goals for the weekend were:

1. Clean my desk and purge the junk Failed - the eye-sore is still sitting there.

2. Get organized 50% - got through some paperwork, but still a few things left to sort through.

3. Don’t to pig out and ruin a pretty good week of eating healthy and working out Success - I ate pretty healthy all weekend!

4. Sleep 50% - not enough sleep on Friday but 10.5 (non-medicated) hours on Saturday night! I was ecstatic! I use an iPhone app to track my sleep patterns and I did not get enough sleep last week so 10.5 was glorious!

5. Play fat dog 100% success!

After going out for a 6-mile run on Saturday, I spent the rest of the day at home, only leaving to pick-up takeout for dinner. I got a phone call from my long-time friend, Mikilani, watched football, did some cleaning and learned what Tumblr was.

I experimented with Tumblr by creating a site dedicated to the San Francisco Giants. I named it, "The Gainey Club", in reference to the best ever sandwich at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale, where I always stay at during Spring Training.

It is seriously the best turkey, avocado, bacon sandwich I've ever had. It was only served poolside and a couple of years ago changed the menu and it went away. Needless to say, my cousins and I were devastated. It was one of the things we looked forward to at Spring Training.

So on the site, I posted a few of blog posts I wrote a couple of years ago, and will post pictures once I pull out my external hard drive. I also figured out how to link it to this blog. Very Web 2.0...see the kind of things I discover when I have a weekend in?! Once March rolls around expect this site to explode. :)

Sunday was all about the fat dog again. I managed to drag myself out of the house and get to the pool for a Sunday swim. I really didn't feel like it, but I made a deal with myself that if I swam, then I could enjoy the whirlpool and steam room. I swam 400 m of freestyle laps, then kick-boarded for another 400 m. It was so worth the reward!

I had planned to spend the rest of the day at home, but I had an unexpected guest - my sister flew into town. She's in the City all week for work, so she flew in a day early and visited with me. After we ran a few errands, we resumed the fat dog festivities. She's an even bigger football fan than I am, and although she's lives in Arizona, she's no Cardinals fan. She also corrected me - in a previous post I wrote that she's a consultant at Sephora, when in fact she's a Regional Corporate Trainer. I made us a huge pot of taco soup for dinner, perfect on a January evening.

This morning's workout was a 3-mile treadmill run and some core training with the medicine ball. This week is shaping up to be a really busy week so I'm glad I took it easy this weekend. Sometimes the best weekends are the ones spent doing absolutely nothing.

What made me happy this weekend I got a Lululelmon gift card for Christmas and used it to get a new backpack! It has pockets for everything, including a pocket to attach your yoga mat, a slot for your laptop and section for wet stuff - perfect for the pool!

This was a license plate I saw on the trail during my Saturday morning run.

Have a great Monday!
