I also used last week's long run to experiment with my race day nutrition, hydration and possible race day outfit.

Nutrition

My routine of pre-run GF bagel with honey continued to work well, along with eating Honey Stinger chews every hour (vs. miles). My only challenge here continues to be the fact that I cannot eat chews and run at the same time.

Hydration

I drank Nuun but also stopped at every aid station for water. I hadn't planned on doing that but it was so warm that I felt I needed to.

I also decided to try eating a salt packet for the first time, out of curiosity more than anything else. I really have no background knowledge about this other than reading on other people's blogs that they do this when running in hot weather. There was a HUGE bag of salt packets on the office lunchroom so I grabbed a handful and brought it home. I carried two packets during Saturday's race and tried one (well actually more like 1/8 of one). It was so gross I'm convinced that it's not humanely possible. I'm thinking that maybe it's supposed to be mixed with a drink?

Race Day Outfit

More details on this later, but this shirt did not work for me. Back to the drawing board...
